In pieces.
We have had a pretty busy week around the house. It has been sunny and warm and perfect weather for weeding the flower beds. I would rather get ahead of the game now then once it starts to get humid. Which during the late spring and summer months it gets unbearable around here with the humidity. Well unbearable to me…I don’t like the hot months.
Anyways after retiring to the indoors I have slowly been putting the Silk Shrug together.

The Silk Shrug is still in pieces but I have managed to pick up those stitches….which I’ve been dreading. The seaming at the shoulders was a little tricky too. A few extra stitches showed up on the left shoulder and I managed to sew in the gap. When I picked up the stitches along the left side and neckline the wonkiness disappeared. Can’t explain that. I made sure to knit both front pieces the same with my little marked up post its….so who knows why the extra space was there. Anyways I am going to finish this this weekend ……that is my goal!
In non-knitting news we have, as Peanut calls them, baby plants.

Hello Spring
Yesterday was so warm so we thought we would venture out to get some gardening supplies. We picked up some seed packets and indoor greenhouses.

We planted them last night so in a few weeks they should be ready to plant outside. Peanut was very excided to have her indoor garden.
Jake however doesn’t look too thrilled.

He’s just unhappy because he knows tonight is pizza night and he can’t have any. Poor guy is on a strictly dog food only diet. He really started to pork up from those pizza crusts and the vet said no more. But I am happy to say that everyone that comes to visit says he looks thinner. He doesn’t know it yet but when that summer heat comes he’ll be thanking me when he can get into his pool again.
This is some chocolate goodness I am going to be using for the Mademoiselle Jacket from Classic Knits.

Last night I swatched and realized from my being very overtired that I used the wrong needles. Opps..I was wondering why my gauge was so off. Of course this is after I finish the Silk Shrug. I did it after hours of working two sleeves at once for the shrug. Yes I am onto the sleeves and thank you for the suggestions on the pattern. I ended up just adding a row on each front piece. Which ended up making them two rows shorter then the back…but I think it will work out. If not…it’s only three rows to rip to fix…so no biggy.
Next it will be on to picking up stitches….oh fun. Happy Friday. ;)

A chunky shrug.
This weekend I put off working on the Silk Shrug and decided I really wanted to use that black cotton for a shrug but just a different pattern. I decided on the Simple Shrug from Speed Knitting.
I started Saturday night while we watched a couple movies and finished seaming last night…again while watching a movie. It was a very simple pattern and just like the book says it’s something you can throw it in your bag to throw on when you get in the ac.
My only complaint about mine is that the sleeves are kind of short.
Unless there supposed to be that way. I knit the same length as the book but I think I am going to pick up and knit a few extra rows. Other then that I am really happy with it.
Now the Silk Shrug from Classic Knits that I have been working on is giving me some trouble. I have almost finished the right front piece but I got a little stumped on reading the pattern. It says to knit even …ok so that’s all the rows as listed…like knit whatever number of rows. But do I also add the decrease rows? But knit them without the decreases? Because without those the front piece would be a few rows short. Or is that how it’s supposed to be? And to make it even better…..there are no schematics for the pattern. The book has really great patterns but no schematics. I like to have an idea of the measurements so that if I get stumped or need to fudge it a little I can. Oh well what’s an extra couple of rows anyway ? Really not that much but I am just a little to obsessive.

Being green.
I know I said that I was knitting a black cotton Silk Shrug but it just wasn’t right. The stitches were way to loose even if I was getting gauge and using smaller needles. It just didn’t look right so I changed my mind. I choose to be green.
I like the green much better….and I am already done with the back. :)

What I learned today...
....frogging something that was knit while using two strands at once is no fun.
No that's not spagetti
Finding new ways to use a new toy is fun.
Finally...goodbye wooden spoon.
Taking a picture of a FO that fits perfect and finding out your camera is in a bad mood....well that's just priceless.
Pattern: Scoop Neck Vest from Speed Knitting

Pasadena
I really never know what to say in the title. Nothing ever comes to mind so I just throw something up there….and it’s normally pretty boring. I seem to be lacking in phrases to make the title interesting. I’ll catch on. ;)
Last night was baked ziti night. A little fact about me is I can’t cook. The hubby does pretty much all the cooking. I mean stuff from a box or those frozen skillet meals is my idea of cooking. (I know that's bad) But when it come to actually making something from scratch and from a cookbook…um yeah it’s not happening. So last night I was in charge of stirring everything from time to time. But the meal itself was up to the man. I think it’s pretty sad that I can’t cook. I have tried numerous times and the results aren’t always tasty. There was the night I made tuna casserole from the B&H Cookbook. I myself took two bites and just couldn’t eat it. The hubby on the other hand is sweet and said it wasn’t bad and tried to just finish as much as he could as fast as he could. People it was really bad. Now I can make cookies from scratch but they don’t always look right. I found that when I make cookies it’s the finishing I have a problem with. Like decorated sugar cookies. Ok so I spent however much amount of time doing the cutouts, waiting for them to bake, cool, and now I have to decorate the damn things. So my sugar cookies tend to be slathered with icing. Chocolate chip cookies I tend to take out too soon or leave in to long. So you have your choice super chewy or dark and crispy. Lets just say I sometimes don’t finish things well. This has shown up in my knitting from time to time too.
Introducing Pasadena.

Now I reworked the pattern to knit from the top down and in one piece. I also made size 42 because I used smaller needles. I think I could have made the smaller size...but I like layering) I guessed on the seed stitch pattern around the ribs and tried to base it from the picture, not the pattern. I did extra rows to lengthen the body. I knitted the sleeves at the same time from the cuff up and attached them by using the Kitchener stitch. I was really obsessive about getting the collar right, picking up the stitches, and seaming those sleeves. And yet I seemed to overlook the curling at the hem.
Meaning that I bound off on the wrong row. This is just going to be a little sewing fix because I’m not/can’t undo all the weave ins and the button bands. The button bands are also causing me a little itching. Around the neck it seems that they like to curve a little too.
Sorry the back shot is really fuzzy
After a good soak I think they may straighten out a little. I have to say…. I do like this cardi. The color and softness are pretty nice. I don’t know if I am liking my buttons yet. If you notice any strings that’s because I haven’t officially weaved in the button yarn. I might see if I can find buttons that blend in with it. However I do like the wood ones….I don’t know though. Suggestions?
Oh and the ziti was pretty good. :)

Windy....
I am still here…..but my internet and phone has not been. We had some really bad wind a couple of weeks ago and the telephone line went out. The line has been going for about a year now. Static on and off and of course when we call to get it fixed they always ask...”well if there is such bad static how can you be calling us from that phone?” The guy finally came out…yet again the static was gone…so who really knows if his 2 hour trip down the street to check said box and fix said cable was true. Oh well at least its works for now.
I never really thought I was addicted to the internet... which is what I discovered these past 2 weeks. I just kept trying to connect all day and sometimes for a minute it worked. Not much fun though. But I am back on so I am happy again. (that crazy wind is back)
My next dilemma that I developed this week was decided on classes. I think I am just going to pass again on the quarter. I haven’t had a chance to look at what’s available (no internet) and I just don’t think I really feel like dealing with the stress. I have been feeling pretty tired lately and the thought of starting up with class this quarter makes me want to go jump into my bed for a nap. I’m just not motivated at all. I also was going to…um possible start working again but that kind of went out the window too.
Knitting has been about the only thing I haven’t been lazy about lately. ;)
Pasadena is ready for the buttons. I searched through my button stash and found nothing. So I decided to take the buttons from another sweater that I don’t or won’t wear. Why waste them. So a finished photo will be in the works.
I have also started a vest from Speed Knitting. Again I am trying to knit up all the yarn I already have and avoid buying more. So I found some grey stuff and thought about a vest. Its kind of wooly itchy stuff so it had to be something that would be layered. This is the first try at the vest.
Doubled yarn and size 13’s (which I subbed with) made this a quick knit. But I realized once I got to the neckline that I was running short on the grey stuff. I decided to rip it all and knit a smaller size…because I am not going to buy more. :) So far so good…and progress photos will be coming soon.
The last newly cast on project is the Silk Shrug from Classic Knits. I don’t have a progress picture because it’s about of inch of work…which is not that exciting. This is on tiny needles…which is not fun for my hands but I am taking my time. Now I didn’t have any silk so I am subbing with some cotton. Once I have some real progress I'll post a pic.
Lastly as I was being lazy and wondering around my house I found a baggy in a closet. This is the same closet that I have an organizer thingy holding some yarn. The baggy was a surprise though because I completely forgot about these. Nice spring colors. :)
