Short Post
I have a lot to post about but I just don’t have the time right now. I’ve been going through my house and garden trying to find the culprit to an allergic reaction Peanut had yesterday. We are feeling much better with the cold bug being gone and yet something else has popped up. It was warm and sunny all weekend and we spent most of the time out in the garden. Yesterday we were only out for about an hour when I noticed what looked like mosquito bites on Peanut. I didn’t think that we would be getting bit already so I didn’t lather on the bug cream. But half way through her nap they changed and were huge. I thought it was heat rash so I put her in a cool bath. Honestly it looked like heat rash. Well last night after she was a sleep for an hour I went to check on and her eyes were swelling shut and the right side of her face was completely swollen and of course the rash had reappeared. So a trip to the emergency room later we find that Peanut is showing severe signs of an allergic reaction to something and we just have to find out what it is. So that’s what I’m doing….trying to find the source. I’ll be posting more about knitting and such in a couple days.

Finally
There is sunshine and the weather has warmed up. Unfortunately for me I just don’t have the energy to dig in the dirt…as I am still sickly. Peanut is feeling much better. She brings me tissues and tried to help me as much she can. But there is also the other side to the situation is that in certain situations this week she has made huge messes….just trying to help. Trying to get a snack, juice, and then attempting to clean up the mess with tissues. A lot of soggy crackers and chips were thrown out. But it was me…well at least that’s what she told me.
Anyways..I pretty much have been stuck on the couch in between cleanup sessions. It’s no fun. I haven’t really had the mind power either. Last night after dinner I couldn’t speak right. It was so strange and the hubby kept asking me if I was okay. He also kept asking me if I had been drinking...um yeah with severe head and chest congestion I just decided to throw back a few in the late afternoon. That would have been my answer but I just threw him a look like are you kidding me. I’m just sick and exhausted and sick of being sick.
I also don’t have the cardi seamed. I just don’t have the energy to rip and redo and so on. So the seams will wait for a couple more days.
I decided I really wanted a new bag. A small project I could just lay with and memorize the pattern. I started this bag from Drops. I actually found some beige or maybe taupe colored stuff that works out pretty well. I seemed to be misplacing the labels after I make those little yarn cakes.

I like the cables…or actually twists. I have some material scraps I plan on using for the liner. Maybe I’ll even add some pockets in there…that is when I feel good enough to lug the sewing machine downstairs.
I stopped working on the sleeves to the Beaded Sweater (minus the beads). The yarn is not a good match for the pattern. It also seems that my gauge has really changed from the swatch because the sleeve caps look huge.
I think I will get use of the yarn for maybe the Lily of the Valley (can't remember what it is) that is going to be in one of the new books I am patiently waiting for. both books had good reviews and I was able to see a good portion of pictures form the book by searching for them. I like to make sure there is more than a couple I-want-to-knit items in there before I buy. All I have to say is I am really excited to get these two books and I am stalking the mailman.

I should win an award..
…for being the worst at seaming. Maybe we should have awards like razzies for the worst seaming, the ugliest sweater, and the longest time spent on a knitting project. It would be all in good fun. Like maybe you’d have to enter into a category…instead of just all the sudden being nominated out of the blue. Wouldn’t that be a shock if you really thought your sweater was gorgeous along with being quite colorful but yet everyone that passed by your blog thought to themselves that boy that’s just plain gaudy. So I guess entering yourself would be important because then you wouldn’t feel hurt if you won. It’s just an idea.
In any case I would definitely enter the worst at seaming competition because I am honestly horrible at it....well sleeves that is.

Not that the picture really shows my lack of skills in this area. But if you were to actually have these shoulders in you hands…you might respond with a few profanities’ and a what were you thinking about here. I try I really do and then I get impatient and then I rip it out and then the whole process starts over. I’m just a beginner to the shoulder/sleeve seaming and I really despise it. Now I know that it will look better after it’s blocked, but it’s the process that drives me crazy. Now I would probably also be entering the longest time to a FO contest if it were not for this one blocking over here.
Luckily after seeing her finished cardi I didn’t throw mine into the “to be seamed” basket.
I think the other reason to the madness is that it takes concentration that I can only have when the Peanut is not around…and that’s only a little bit of time during the day…which is mostly spent doing other things.
So what is the best way to sew on the sleeves? The shoulder to shoulder I got down but it’s just the sleeves that drive me nutty.

Ribbit ribbit.
I woke up with a frog in my throat. Well at least it feels that way. Peanut has infected me with her mutated cold. And you know I think she did it on purpose. Her cough has been more productive and she insists on running up to me and coughing in my face. Now she knows to cover her mouth and does that quite well…but this was a deliberate infecting mommy plan. Ugh I just started to feel better….and now it’s back.

yes they are conspiring in there.....and yes that's a tent in my living room.
Oh and speaking of our sickness let me tell you about the medication issue we had this weekend. (I forgot to tell this story) Let me just start out by saying Peanut’s doctors office is the worst to go to and we always have issues and thankfully in the past year we haven’t had to go very often. And you may wonder why I haven’t changed offices….well that is also a difficult task for many reasons…but I have tried. Anyways her doctors office last time she was sick (over the summer when we went camping) prescribed a medication that I am seriously allergic to. I even explained to them that.. hey if she spits this liquid out at me and I happen to get it on me or in my mouth….um yeah I might have a hospital trip out of it. The response was to make sure she didn’t spit it out. Ok this his the same doc that knows when Peanut had to have shots they had 2 nurses hold her because she is bionic baby. She is a strong little girl and a great spitter…and yes I did get the med on me and yes I had a reaction but luckily I didn’t get it in my mouth. That says something doesn't it? So on Friday the doc started speed talking (another annoying trait) about the medications and as always I had to repeat everything to double check what I might have heard and understood. The antibiotic is something I have talking and am not allergic to so I can dose Peanut. (BTW I am allergic to a lot of medications but there are three that I have life threatening reactions to) The second medication was “over the counter” and “you should follow the directions for the dose for her”. The doc told me to give a toddler Mucinex! I even repeated “Mucinex?” and doc replied “ yes Mucinex DM”. I though this was kind of strange…isn’t that for adults? The hubby picked it up for $23.… um yeah that’s a little pricey. And to make things worse it’s a tablet and it CLEARLY states on the side Not For Children under 12 years old. I called the pharmacy to find out if maybe the hubby had missed the children’s version of the medication. Nope.. the pharmacist said that there isn’t a version for children my daughters age and to definitely not give that to her. Really are they crazy? Situations like this really push me to my limit. I'm supposed to take her back for a checkup in 2 weeks to make sure she is feeling better.....hmm I better start calling around to see if other offices have openings yet.
Ok on to more interesting stuff…like knitting. Well I started that little cap sleeved minus the beads sweater and I’ve already ripped it out. I started getting those open stitch raglan seams and I just didn’t like it. I decided to the increases another way…but now I think I understand why it’s knit in pieces and then seam for the neatness. Oh well you knit and learn and it was only a couple of rows.

Last night I did a spur of the moment thing and shopped online. (Online shopping bad.) I bought 2 new books and they should be arriving next week. It’s not like I don’t have a head full of enough projects I yearn to knit already…..I just had to add a few more. And with that is the yearning for some nice summery yarns. Now I am not supposed to buy any yarn (notice the KFYS button up to the right), but I can’t help it…..wool is just not easy to wear in the summer as a tank top. I do have a few balls of cotton yarn for tank for Peanut but I don’t think they will be enough and I think it would be more suitable as a knitted dishtowel.
I’ve also been trying to decide on where to buy it…because it’s probably going to be a “hey hun I bought …ahem….some stuff online….ahem..so don’t worry about a mother’s day gift for me”. Do you think that will work?
So if you know of a sale or a great place to order from….please let me know. I am going to use my get out of stash card very soon.

What is ki-tus?
Just a little update. We went to the doctor today.
Peanut: “Mommy got ki-tus”
Me: “You have ki-tus?”
Peanut: “YES Mommy got ki-tus”
Me: “Ok…..what’s ki-tus?”
Peanut: “ Dunno….what ki-tus is…got ki-tus”
It's funny how when kids hear something said about them they make up their own little name for it. Peanuts got bronchitis…and she calls it ki-tus. It’s not very pleasant for her. She doesn’t like to cough and gets really upset which just makes it worse. She a little panic machine when she’s sick. But we got her some meds and she should be feeling better soon. I didn’t have the cough like her but who knows there is still that chance that I could get it. The culprit for this nice spring bronchitis session is the hubby. Thanks deary. And patient zero was a guy from work who I guess was hacking all over the place. I’m getting the DH a nice Purell key chain thingy.

Anyways amongst the wooping coughs, distributing the meds, and sanitizing toys I just didn’t have the concentration to sew those seams. I started on them last night. I decided I needed a spring color change. I chose to swatch for the beaded sweater from Vintage Knits. Yet mine will be minus the beads…because well I ‘m not really into the bead thing. I love this color. It’s a color change for me. I’m planning on altering the pattern also. I’m going to make it from the top down in one piece. Hopefully it will work. I don’t really like sewing raglan seams or pieces together, so I am going to just take the sewing out of it. So I’m off to do some math and try and keep Peanut calm.

We got the bug.
This was supposed to post this last night....um don't know what happened there.
We are down with the sickness. Peanut has the bug real bad. It has not been a fun past few days. Since we’ve been lounging around all week it seems, I’ve had plenty of time to knit. But somehow forgot to post. Which is nice to do from time to time during the day. Peanut’s been picking movie after movie which is good for her to relax. I think I might know Cinderella word for word now.

So this is the this. I guess it doesn’t really have a name but is just listed as what type of cardigan it is. I don’t know what it is but the last few things I’ve picked out to knit have been cropped. I’m not really into cropped things but this looked cute and I thought why not.
These are the prizes I won. I couldn’t believe I won because I never win anything. I guess I am going to have to start on some socks. Thank you Lori for having the contest. . :)

Lastly I will just ask…What is up with the weather? We got snow the other day. I guess it’s ok to be cold this week because we’ve got the bug. But I would like to request that next week we don’t have a freeze warning and the day time temperature could be warmer. I know I’ve mentioned that I am a big fan of snow…..but not in April…not after the Easter bunny has been here. Not only that but our little indoor garden is starting to look like a jungle and the hubby would like to know when he can get his kitchen table back. Hopefully next week we’ll be out of the tissue box and our weather will be warmer.

Cold shoulders.
This week has flown by. The family has survived my cooking for a few days. I’m pretty proud of myself for managing to not burn anything. (The chicken turned out really well…even though the smoke alarm did go off)
It’s been a cold week and a week for colds. The household has been sneezing and everyone is exhausted. I felt horrible all day today. Just too tired to do anything. I think because we got that burst of warm weather and then the cold returned we just caught the spring cold bug.
So I thought I would just sit and relax and finish up weaving in the ends on the Silk Shrug. The finishing is what takes the longest for me to do. :)

So here it is in a nice flat-laying there photo….because it’s too big. I’m really disappointed. My gauge was right on. I made size 34 and still it doesn’t fit. I was worried that it looked small…and it STILL doesn’t fit. I even gave it a nice steam…but I think that may have stretched it out more.
So in my frustration, because I really wanted to wear this, I threw it in the washing machine and maybe It will make a nice felted object that I can put on the coffee table. :)
Actually it won’t even do that because it super wash and I already checked on it and it’s not going to make a pretty green sculpture.
Well all frustration aside if it doesn’t shrink a little, which could be possible, then I think it might just go somewhere. Like in a box to Nana’s house. Although it’s to big for me it might be perfect for her. I’ll just have to another one for me.

Trying not to burn the house down.
Alright I know I said I made a goal this weekend to finish that shrug…..but that didn’t happen. However I did pick up stitches and finish the neck band. But instead of keeping with it I ended up not seaming the sleeves until this evening. So far the first sleeve looks good. But I have put the second on hold for now…because I am cooking dinner. Yes I am attempting to cook a meal with real chicken.
(Remember I said I can’t cook….but I do try)
It’s nothing fancy just baked chicken with a little seasoning. The hubby has switched to a later work shift and so now I have the choice of either starting dinner or waiting and eating really late. So I thought I would be nice and try to start dinner. The funny thing, along with my inability to cook, is that I can’t touch raw meat, or buy it. I really can’t....it's just gross. So I don’t normally do the grocery shopping either. The hubby does the shopping and bags up everything. Isn’t he a sweetie.
Anyways I am attempting to cook, sew seams, and entertain a toddler. It’s been a fun evening so far. No major fires or smoke alarms going off yet. There has been a few phantom drawing appearances…and I thank the crayon company for making them washable. Toddlers are such fun. :)
I also started this the other night. I decided that I might at well use up the yarn from Ubernatural. Oh I don’t think that I mentioned that I disassembled it. It had been in my closet and I had not worn it and while trying it on a realized I really wouldn’t wear it. So it’s gone. I think this little cardigan would be cuter.
This past weekend I also got a chance to venture out toddler free and pick up a copy of the spring Interweave Knits. I’ve been flipping through it and I love the Bonsai Tunic. I think I might start that up next.
