I’m going to play a little catch up.
My mom came to visit and it was nice to have her here. We went to the National Aquarium. I took pictures with my cell phone and they disappeared. Anyways the place was packed and really dark and you can’t bring strollers in…..because there are stairs everywhere….and narrow escalators. Other than that it was fun to see all the tanks and Peanut loved the sharks, sea turtles, and she also talked to the dolphins which was really funny. We were supposed to go to their show but she had a melt down…because she was tired…from all the steps…so we left a little early.
Peanut had a birthday party on Monday while her Nana was still here. Her birthday was on last Wednesday and now she is three. My mom gave Peanut a beta fish…named Fish and amazingly it’s still swimming. The last fish we had only lived a couple of days.

He hates the camera…..he puffs out his gills and it’s so funny.
I realized that three is going to be the age of “I can’t” and “I don’t wanna” …because those statements have been said the most this past week. She also now is refusing to let us take pictures of her so most of her party pics turned out like this.

So to end last week I cleaned up the party mess and re-cleaned the spare room because my MIL was coming this past weekend. I also needed to clean up Jakes’ room because he was also getting a visitor….her goldy that just happens to be the same age and have the same name. So she came and went and things weren’t so bad….in other words nothing extreme happened so I have nothing to vent about. ;) I’m trying to get used to the little things she does and says and not let them bother me and so far it worked for this visit.
Anyways it was a busy week and I didn’t get much knitting done.

I did finish the gusset for this bag today and steamed the pieces so I’ll be seaming later. Oh joy.
This is the Brea bag from Berroco. The only problem that I have come across is that the strap is no longer available so I don’t know what else to do but knit one.
So that’s my catch up for now. Now I just need to catch up on blog reading and all that good stuff. :)

I got tagged.
Sorry I’ve been MIA this past week. I’ve got a lot to post about but first things first.
I have been tagged by Kim and Marlene .
Here’s the rules:
Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those who are tagged need to write on their own blog those 7 facts as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and to read your blog.
My random facts:
1. I am addicted to M&M’s. Really it’s a bad addiction because I polish off those pounder bags in a day. Around the holidays I managed to eat 6 bags…which were supposed to be for one of those decorative candy jars. I don’t know what it is but I just can’t help it.
2. I never add salt, pepper, or garlic to my food. For some reason adding seasonings always make things taste horrible to me. So I just don’t do it.
3. I have a bee/wasp phobia. Now honeybees or bumble bees that are on plants doing there job don’t bug me….as long as they don’t hover near me and just stick to the flowers. However any bee/wasp that gets too close to me causes me to freak out…yeah I end up running away and the neighbors probably think I’m nuts.
4. I have a super sense of smell. The hubby thinks it’s crazy and I can bust him when he’s had fast food for lunch.
5. I taught myself to knit. My Aunt showed me how to crochet when I was eight but I used to watch my Great Grandmother knit but I never tried it or asked her to teach me. I ended up a couple of years ago watching some show and wanted to learn. So I taught myself.
6. I love snow but I don’t ski. I tried to ski once in gym class in elementary school and didn’t like it.
7. I love dogs. My first pet was a German Sheppard and I had him until he was thirteen. I’ve had Jake for 11 years and I think I might be getting a play mate for him soon.
I know this has been going around so I’m not going to officially tag anyone….but if your reading this and you haven’t done it yet then consider yourself tagged. ;)
Btw it’s taken a couple of days for me to post this because I have been so busy…hence the non-tagging too.
And to complete my busy week/ weekend another visitor is coming tomorrow….the MIL.

My Mother’s favorite saying.
When I was a child I used to stub my toes, trip while walking, or skin my knees….all the time. I would either have a sore toe or a scabby knee just about ever other day. I was just plain clumsy. My mother used to constantly tell me to watch were I was going and pay attention. She also thinks now that the reason I was so clumsy was because I grew so fast ( I was a really tall child) and I was similar to those clumsy fawns with there lanky long legs. But to this day I still stub my toes and sometimes I trip but I don’t normally fall because I’ve been pretty good at remembering what my Mother told me. Everybody does get overwhelmed though and sometimes thinking of two many things at once can cause the brain to not pay attention to the important task at hand ….like walking down three stairs. So I fell and did something to my ankle and it was so stupid because I just completely missed the step. So much for listening to Mom about paying attention. The ankle is a little swollen and bruised, but it’s the stiffness and the feeling like I stepped on hot sand that is bothersome. It could have been worse…I could have missed the landing and fallen completely down the basement stairs. That thought crossed my mind too as I was midway through the fall and I thought of another blogger that fell a while back and broke her leg. Yes during the process of falling I thought wow this is so familiar…like I’ve been here before….oh no it was…oh crap I’m going to break my leg. But thankfully I didn’t. The other interesting point to this is that my Mom is coming for a visit..today... so I’ll hear all about how important it is to pay attention this weekend. ;) Wait until she sees Peanut's little knees, they have evidence of her inherited clumsiness.
So in my need to sit and relax and elevate my foot I pulled out that green yarn and cast on something for myself.

To cheer me up my Clematis bloomed….but it’s not the right color.

It’s supposed to be white and pink.
Now that the count down has started for my Mom’s arrival….. I need to clean up the house.
That’s another advisement she gave me a while back…a clean house is a comfortable house and it’s best to make your guests feel at home. I guess I should really bandage up my foot so she’ll let me slide on this one.

Making Lists.
Well that’s what I need to do….make some lists. A list for knits to be knitted and household things to be completed. I got sidetracked this weekend and decided to jump in and paint that bathroom. Yes I spent Mother's Day painting...and eating the chocolate I got. I actually love to paint…it’s the process, just like knitting. My favorite part is sitting there after completing the room and thinking to myself how clean it looks. It won’t stay that way for long and soon the walls will have little handprints all over them, but for a few days it looks so clean. Anyways I did that instead of working on Monica and seaming up the cardi. So no new progress or change pics here.
However I do have a few new blooms in the garden.

This is the yarn for my next project…maybe. I love the color green…and especially shades like a granny apple and leaf. This is leaf garden from Patons. Purchase a long while back just because of the color.

Not a good choice.
This is what I cast on with some of my new cotton ease.

It’s Monica from Knitty. Very cute and easy pattern that I modified for knitting in the round. However the color choices were not good. I picked violet for the the body and berry for the ruffle. Peanut is just not into it and after I let it sit for two days on the table I wasn't really into it either. I was trying for a girly purple /pink theme.

The violet is too dark and is more of a blue tone and is just too overpowering for the berry which is a soft pink. Now the two would look cute as stripes but with this top it’s just not a good choice. I do love the style of this little top and it was such a quick knit that I’m definitely going to re-knit it. I told Peanut that I would make her something before I start another something for myself. So the project list for this weekend is work on a new Monica and seam that drops cardi that I completely forgot about.
Again today it’s too humid to start painting the bath, so we have plans to check out the garden. Remember all these? Well the rabbits got to them. It’s funny how we have this large population of rabbits and we live in the city. When we first moved here we thought it was nice to have the wild life. But now at times they can be more destructive then cute. So to stop them from eating all the plants and to stick to eating the clover we’ll be spraying everything with apple bitter. It’s that stuff you can spray on just about anything to stop a puppy or dog from chewing and I found out last summer it’s a great way to get the bunnies from eating my hosta’s.
They don’t eat these.

Thankfully they don’t eat these either.

Who knew I could grow stuff. :)

What’s in that box?
That was the question I was asked last night by the DH. For a minute I thought…should I tell him or just say it’s winter clothes. Then it came to me that I might as well just confess because it’s going to be around for awhile.
Yes I gave in.

I bought a large box of yarn. So can this count as my one time slip up? Um yeah it’s going to have too.
Now I have never used this stuff before but after getting into shopping mode and searching for some deals I came across a sale. How could I resist…well obviously I couldn’t. I searched for reviews too because honestly this was a large quantity that I planned on getting and I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t have to send it back. Reviews were good and so I ordered.

Lime, Maize, Terracotta, Lake, Violet, Berry
I love the colors. This yarn is soft and light. It’s also fun to knit with. ;) Yep I already cast on with it…I just had too it was calling me.
I was a little worried about the Terracotta color being really red.

It’s not.. it’s muted which is perfect!
So that’s my haul.
I can’t believe it’s Thursday either. Where did the week go? Oh that’s right we’ve been painting this week. Peanut and I went to Lowes this weekend and picked out paint for our kitchen and bath. Both have been painted recently but with really bad paint…the Stewart brand it’s like water. ;) The kitchen was finished yesterday, but the bath is going to have to wait for a cooler day. It’s so hot here today. Or maybe it’s the humidity. Well just not good painting weather.
Peanut doesn’t help really….she just supervises. Yesterday she managed to sneak some handprints on the walls that were drying.
I should also start a little segment on what happened to the Peanut.
This week she feel and split her eye lid open in the care of her father. Here are the words you don’t really want to hear when you first wake up…from a nice morning sleeping in btw….”uh hun…..don’t freak out…but…she fell and….uh”. It was a little split but a lot of blood, which made it look worse. But she’s fine and it’s healing nicely. But what a way to wake up on a Monday. …and now it’s Thursday. ;)

Itsy Bitsy Spider
Well not really itsy at all. Peanut found this little guy while we were rearranging some plants yesterday.

Normally I would have put him out of his misery, but with a toddler (that loves bugs) watching my every move I decided I would contain him so she could check him out. This is a typical wolf spider and they have a pretty nasty bite…and they get huge. He’s not even that big…really he’s kinda small. Peanut walked around with him in a container for about an hour and later I released him because he was a good sport and survived the container shaking and being yelled at. If you’ve seen Nemo then you know Darla…and Peanut is like that when she gets her hands on a bug.
Later on we ( hubby and I) found another on our porch waiting patiently to be let in. That’s what they do…they wait for you to open the door to let them in. I’m sorry to say but that one…didn’t make it. Sorry but I don’t want these guys in my house having coffee with me in the morning….their not pleasant house guests.
We also found some blooms in our garden. Most of which were picked by Peanut and put in her sand box garden.

Anybody know what this purple plant is?

Lastly no garden is complete without finding one of these. Peanut loves these.

Adding to my library.
I finally got my new books...after waiting patiently for just a few weeks. ;)

Lace Style and Fitted Knits
Just a few more knits to add to my to do list. That list is getting pretty long. :)
I mean really with the amount of post-its I have in all these books I am going to need to really prioritize the ones I want to knit.

I think I have enough books now too. So I am on a book and magazine diet. Well that is after I get the summer IK I’ll be on that diet.
Oh in other news Jake had a trip to the vet for some shots and he lost 6 pounds! He is slimming down…and his diet is working. He still has a way to go but he is getting there.

Now if I could only get him to stop eating the grass.

And....
…we’re back. No sign of the mystery allergen yet but the good news is that we spent yesterday outside all day and she didn’t have a reaction. I asked the doctor on Friday if there was anything we could do so that I could take Peanut outside without worry. Doc said no just give her Benadryl if the rash shows up and then of course check for any swelling and so on. Well because we spent all day yesterday and I was a little nervous last night and checked on her a bunch of times while she slept and she was fine…no swelling…meaning no emergency trip…which meant I could sleep easy…and we will be venturing out today as well.
Oh and I have a FO and it’s love.

I seamed this up yesterday morning and was able to sew the strap on last night. (The pattern said make 2 straps and I just made one long one and folded it in half.) I decided not to sew up a liner because it really doesn’t need it. The stitches are so tight I’m not worried about anything falling out. It’s the perfect bag for me….I just love it!

Pattern is Bag with Cable Pattern and can be found here.
Yarn was from something from my stash in a mushroom color.
I did a little try on (you know throwing over the shoulder) for the hubby last night and said “so what do you think?”. He told me that it looks like I bought it or actually it came from a store and that it wasn’t a handmade. He knew I made it but it didn’t have that pieced together hand made look. Isn’t that nice. :)
